Asian American Ballet Project

Receding and Reemerging

Four world premieres will anchor Receding and Reemerging. AABP company dancer Azamat Asangul makes his debut as a choreographer with a ballet based on the origin story of the Kyrgyz moonflower. Zhanat Baidaralin, choreographer of "On the Way" from AABP's 2024 concert Intersections, will return with a ballet that tells the Kazakh legend of Gengis Khan's son's fatal encounter with a herd of deer. Ballet Austin TWO's Alexa Capareda will choreograph a ballet set in a Philippine forest filled with the fantastical creatures said to roam at night. Up-and-coming local choreographer Destiny Kluck will create a ballet that explores the Chinese myth of the Red Thread of Fate. Rounding out the program are a few surprises plus a restaging of Michel Fokine's 1911 "Spectre de la Rose" by AABP's artistic director Beth Mochizuki.

Running Time: 1 hour, 15 minutes, 1 intermission
