  • • Our venue at 2 Arrow Street in Cambridge is located at the intersection of Arrow St and Massachusetts Avenue.

    • All public spaces in the venue are on the first floor/ground level.

    • All entrances to the venue are accessible via double doors located on the Arrow St side of the building and at the Arrow St end of an open-air pedestrian passageway that runs along the east side of the building between Arrow St and Mount Auburn Street.

    • Accessing the venue from Mount Auburn St via the passageway requires traversing 14 stairs or a 110-foot-long cement ramp with handrails.

    • There is a sidewalk curb cut with ramp and tactile paving at the cross walk on Arrow St directly in front of the building and passageway.

    • Our venue has two primary performance and event spaces: the Black Box and the Studio. Both offer flexible configurations that may vary by event.

  • • The venue does not have dedicated parking.

    • On-street parking is available on Arrow St and on many roads surrounding the venue. The closest designated accessible on-street parking spaces are on Mass Ave just before the intersection with Arrow Street, and on Arrow Street just before the intersection with Bow Street.

  • Accessible seating meeting ADA requirements is located at the front of the audience seating area in all configurations in both performance spaces.

    • The Black Box offers multiple seating configurations for up to 300 audience members

    • In the Black Box, most performances utilize elevated audience seating (stadium style) that require climbing two stairs per seating row to access seating from the second row and behind. There are handrails for all stairs within the audience seating area. If you or anyone in your party is unable to climb stairs, please select accessible seating when purchasing tickets.

    • The Studio offers multiple seating configurations for up to 70 audience members

    • In the Studio, most performances utilize cushioned chairs without armrests placed directly on the floor. Any variance from this seating will be noted for the specific event and accessible seating will be offered.

  • • Audio Description is offered at select performances via venue-supplied headsets available free of charge from the Audience Services staff in the lobby. These headsets may be used at any seat in the performance space.

    • Before these shows, trained describers detail the visual elements of the production (set, costumes, props)

    • During these performances, a trained describer inserts descriptions of critical visual elements: actions, appearance of characters, body language, costumes, settings, lighting.

  • Our venue offers Assistive Listening Devices that amplify and clarify sound by cutting down or eliminating ambient noise. These are available from the Audience Services staff in the lobby free of charge at every performance and may be used at any seat. Our system offers earphone amplification as well as a T-Coil loop option for those who use hearing aids with T-Coil.

  • • American Sign Language interpretation is available for select performances.

    • Skilled theatrical performers use ASL to interpret the performances on stage.

    • Audience members can see both the Interpreters and the stage action simultaneously.

    • While the Interpreters should be visible from all seats, we designate “ASL Seating” near the Interpreter for optimal sightlines to see all the action.

    • For general admission performances, we offer ASL Seating as an option when booking your tickets so that we can hold seats near the Interpreter. Audience Services staff can direct you to the ASL designated seating upon your entry to the performance space.

  • • Select performances use real-time text captions to represent spoken dialogue and other important audio elements during a show to allow audience members who are Deaf or hard-of-hearing to follow the plot.

    • Arrow Street Arts’ venue is equipped to provide Open Captioning and Closed Captioning. Offerings are determined by the production.

    • Open Captions are shown on a screen visible to all audience members. No one can enable or disable these captions based on their preferences.

  • When offered by the production, Relaxed Performances, sometimes called Sensory Friendly performances, provide a more relaxed atmosphere at the theater. Without fundamentally altering the content of the production, these performances feature adjustments to the severity of sound and lighting cues, a relaxed and inclusive attitude toward audience members making sounds, moving, and using assistive devices; and quiet areas outside of the performance space for anyone who needs a break.

For all performances and events, our Audience Services team can provide additional items upon request:

    • Noise Reducing Headphones

    • Weighted Blanket

    • Sensory Regulation Object (fidget toy)

Though space is limited in the venue, for most performances and events, upon request our Audience Services staff may be able provide access to a quiet, calming space.
